I've discovered an undocumented option, /AUTOTEST, for the
DOS FORMAT command. By bypassing the "Volume label" and
"Format another diskette" prompts (it assumes the negative
for both), /AUTOTEST lets you format disks with less input.
There's one drawback: /AUTOTEST doesn't work with DOS 5.0's
/Q (quick) option.

Editor's Note: The /AUTOTEST option is available in DOS 4.0
and later. Because it lets you bypass the prompts, /AUTOTEST
is extremely handy for formatting a disk from a batch file,
or if you simply want to format a single disk with no
questions asked.
